Itinerary Overview

This 7-night voyage offers a high-density tour of the Eastern Mediterranean's most significant historical and scenic sites. Sailing in early October provides a strategic advantage, offering milder temperatures for exploring the exposed ruins of Ephesus and Pompeii, which can be punishingly hot in mid-summer. The journey begins and ends in Civitavecchia, a functional port that serves as the gateway to Rome. We strongly suggest extending your stay on land here, as the port itself is merely a transit point for the capital's vast history. The itinerary anchors the experience with two distinct highlights: the dramatic volcanic cliffs of Santorini and the archaeological magnitude of Ephesus. In Santorini, the views of the caldera are spectacular, but the logistics of the tender port and cable car require patience and planning to navigate effectively. In contrast, the stop in Kusadasi, Turkey, offers direct access to Ephesus, one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the world. Walking the marble streets to the Library of Celsus is an intellectual highlight of the region. You will also visit Mykonos, where the best approach is often an unscripted walk through the winding alleys of the main town, and Naples, a chaotic but essential launchpad to the ruins of Pompeii. Aboard the modern Odyssey of the Seas, you have a comfortable, contemporary base to retreat to after these active days ashore.
